Overview
Scatena Daniels Communications works with United Way of San Diego County to help the nonprofit grow and shine as a convener and community leader in the education and family stability spaces.
Challenge
We often have strict media outreach limitations due to the sensitive nature of United Way of San Diego County's work that involves children and families that live in low-income households or underrepresented communities. The organization is a convener in the region, so it can be challenging to ensure its mission is at the forefront of strategic communications campaigns. Many of their efforts include partners, elected officials, and community leaders which can often present a challenge in coordination or availability.
Results
Through consistent messaging and creative strategies, our success with United Way of San Diego County has been versatile. We have exceeded our measurable goals since working with the nonprofit and have elevated their work to support underserved communities. We’ve also prioritized lifting up their community partners in our outreach efforts, and have also diversified their media coverage and secured features in all major local broadcast, print, and online outlets in the region in both English and Spanish language media.
In addition to standalone campaign opportunities, our team focuses our communications efforts around the nonprofit's annual campaigns, including Read Across America, Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, Real Cost Measure and the Day of Service in partnership with San Diego Gives.
