“We work to ensure foster youth are inspired and encouraged to pursue higher education. We teach them that there are no limits to their potential and provide academic support and guidance that a family would typically provide, helping them to overcome the difficulties of their past and grow into successful adults,” said Tonya Torosian, CEO of Promises2Kids. “This generous donation from Sleep Train will be used to expand our Junior Guardian Scholars program and pay for tutoring, standardized testing, college fees, and more. Sleep Train has changed the lives of so many foster children and families over the years, we couldn’t be more grateful to the company and its true commitment to the community.”
Promises2Kids Guardian Scholars program provides former foster children with partial scholarships for higher education, as well as mentoring and college preparatory support. More than 200 former foster youth have received scholarships to date.
Sleep Train’s annual Charity Golf Classic raises money for West Coast foster children, and to date has raised over $4.4 million. The 2015 event collected a record-breaking $1 million to fund GED completion, tutoring, fees and supplies for standardized testing, and costs associated with applying for and attending college.
“Every parent wants their children to grow up and be successful – to finish school, go on to college, have a career and lead a happy fulfilling life. We want to help make sure foster kids have those same opportunities,” said Gina Davis, VP of Marketing for Sleep Train. “We are overjoyed to partner with and support incredible organizations like Promises2Kids that help local foster youth achieve these goals.”
