SAN DIEGO – Aug. 31, 2015 – Plaza Home Mortgage, Inc. is providing free mammograms to underserved women in four California communities the first week of October with money raised during its annual campaign to support Susan G. Komen. To help kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, free mammogram events will be held in San Diego, San Jose and Orange County. Individuals who are underinsured or uninsured are encouraged to obtain breast cancer screenings at these events. (Editors: Please see location, dates and times below.)
“Countless Plaza associates, clients and friends have been affected by breast cancer. We have lost people close to us and watched others struggle to fight the disease,” said Kevin Parra, President and CEO, Plaza Home Mortgage. “We support Susan G. Komen each year as our primary philanthropic activity because the need to find a cure for breast cancer and support those who suffer from it is so great.”
For the third year in a row, Plaza Home Mortgage will make a donation based on October loan volume to Susan G. Komen in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since the beginning of this partnership, Plaza has donated nearly $250,000 to Susan G. Komen and this year will be contributing $73,065 based on 2014 mortgage sales. The donations are a result of the extraordinary efforts of Plaza associates and clients nationwide. In addition to the corporate donation, Plaza employees throughout the nation host bake sales, knit scarves, lift weights, walk, race and look pretty in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer.
“Susan G. Komen is especially thankful to Plaza Home Mortgage,” said Laura Farmer Sherman, president & CEO, Susan G. Komen San Diego. “It is because of gracious corporate sponsors like Plaza that we can support underserved women who cannot afford screening and follow-up services, even if they have insurance.”
Plaza Home Mortgage’s donation helps Susan G. Komen provide free services during every step of the breast cancer journey, including education, outreach, free mammograms, financial assistance for living expenses, food assistance, transportation and more. This donation also helps fund the largest investment in breast cancer research in the world next to the U.S. government. For more information on Susan G.
