National University’s Sanford Institute of Philanthropy Named Presenting Sponsor of San Diego’s Premiere Community Service Recognition Awards Program

SAN DIEGO – May 19, 2015 – National Philanthropy Day is celebrated throughout the United States every year. This fall, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), San Diego Chapter, continues the tradition and is calling for nominations to recognize outstanding philanthropists, volunteers and nonprofit organizations whose achievements have made an impact in the San Diego region, Imperial County and Tijuana.

AFP San Diego also announces that National University’s Sanford Institute of Philanthropy, which is dedicated to supporting the positive impacts of nonprofits through a focus on fundraising, is the presenting sponsor of National Philanthropy Day 2015. Honorees will be recognized at the organization’s 43rd annual philanthropy awards luncheon on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel San Diego. National Philanthropy Day highlights the importance of public and private partnership and collaboration in philanthropy and the role of the development staff and volunteers in philanthropy and is also committed to celebrating the rich diversity in the region.

The categories are:

  • Outstanding Organization Volunteer
  • Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer
  • Outstanding Philanthropic Organization
  • Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation
  • Outstanding Youth/Student Volunteer
  • Outstanding Philanthropist

The application is available online now. The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 5 at 5:00 p.m. This is the first year the nomination process is open to include anyone who also lives and/or works Imperial County and Tijuana. Serving as co-chairs for the event are Dr. Allyson Handley, Executive Director of National University’s Sanford Education Center that includes the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy, and Nancy Rohland, National University System Vice Chancellor of Pre-College Programs and Interim Executive Vice President of National University. Nancy Jamison, executive director of San Diego Grantmakers, is the honorary committee chairperson.

The Sanford Institute of Philanthropy was established at National University in 2014 through a generous gift by renowned philanthropist and businessman T. Denny Sanford. The Sanford Institute of Philanthropy is dedicated to increasing the fundraising strategies of nonprofits and cause organizations so that they can maximize their impact on the public good. The Institute offers seminars, certificates and a master’s program, with curriculum developed by the University’s School of Business and Management and Division of Extended Learning.
