WHAT: Serving Seniors (formerly Senior Community Centers) hosts a Town Hall Forum with U.S. Rep. Scott Peters at their state-of-the-art community center in Downtown San Diego. Congressman Scott Peters will be answering questions and discussing senior issues from housing to Social Security to transportation, nutrition and more.
Did you know that 2 in 5 San Diego seniors have to choose between rent and food? 
Cuts in federal, state and local funding have taken a toll on funding services San Diego seniors rely on. This Town Hall Meeting provides local seniors an opportunity to discuss real issues affecting them daily, as well as to get answers from their elected official.
WHEN: Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014. 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
       B-roll of seniors eating meals available at 11 a.m. will be available.
Timeline of Events:
10:00 to 10:10 a.m. – Paul Downey will open forum and introduce Peters
10:10 to 10:30 a.m. – Peters will speak about who he is and what he has been doing for seniors
10:30 to 11:00 a.m. – Q&A with Paul Downey as the moderator
WHERE: Serving Seniors’ Gary & Mary West Senior Wellness Center

EXPECTED ATTENDANCE: Approximately 200 seniors
WHY: Since 1970, Serving Seniors’ (formerly known as Senior Community Centers) innovative solutions have helped San Diego seniors struggling with poverty and hunger. The organization provides 535,000 meals each year to their clients, as well as delivers “wrap-around” wellness services, to take care of senior health, mental health, advocacy, and housing needs. Programs and events like the Town Hall Forum provide an opportunity for seniors to stay active, engaged and informed with important issues in the community. The safety net of services keeps seniors out of emergency rooms reduces hospital days and delays and or/ eliminates the need for long-term care.
