San Diego – April 5, 2012 – Attendees planning on coming to the 21st annual Mama’s Day fundraiser will not be disappointed with the line-up planned for the event at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla on Fri., May 11, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
More than 700 guests are expected to attend an extraordinary evening to benefit Mama’s Kitchen, a nonprofit organization to cook and deliver hot, nutrition-specific meals free of charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS or cancer throughout San Diego County.
Last month, Mama’s Kitchen delivered their sixth millionth meal and the financial support needed to continue this work is crucial. “Mama’s Day is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we are delighted to see more than 60 of San Diego’s best and brightest culinary professionals from the finest restaurants, hotels and catering companies return,” said Alberto Cortés, executive director, Mama’s Kitchen. “They each donate their time, talent, and delicious food for the event, which enables us to continue to serve meals to critically ill clients throughout San Diego County at no charge.”
The VIP Reception, hosted by RIVIERA features Sam “the Cooking Guy” Zien and Ian Ward, mixologist, from Snake Oil. For the first time ever, VIP guests will be treated to an exclusive food and cocktail presentation at the VIP poolside RIVIERA Cabana Lounge. VIP guests can meet and mingle with Zien and Ward and enjoy a hosted bar with premium wine, beer and refreshments available throughout the evening. The VIP Reception is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and guests are encouraged to arrive early so they don’t miss out on the show. The VIP Lounge is open throughout the evening.
“Our guests return year after year to mix and mingle with San Diego’s top chefs and we knew we needed to kick it up a notch to keep our guests excited to renew their support for Mama’s Kitchen,” said Heather K. Bowden, event chairperson, Mama’s Day 2012, who is also a La Jolla resident. “The presentation by Sam and Ian adds an extraordinary element of interaction our guests will appreciate before they embark on an amazing evening for a special charity.”
Guests enjoy music, food and fun throughout the evening, as well as bidding on an extensive silent auction, entering an opportunity drawing for outstanding prizes, and Wine Vault, with a 1 in 52 chance to win more than 20 bottles of premium wines worth more than $1,000. Guests can also participate in a Super Silent auction, with text bidding, which allows party goers to keep tabs on their bids via their smartphones.
Mama’s Day 2012 is presented by Nordstrom and hosted by Sycuan Casino.
General admission tickets for Mama’s Day 2012 are just $125 per person, and will be $150 at the door. A limited number of premium VIP tickets are available at $250 per person, which includes early access at 5:30 p.m. to the exclusive VIP reception hosted by Riviera Magazine just before the doors open to general admission attendees at 6:30 p.m.

Mama’s Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious, life-sustaining food.
