Encinitas, Calif. – April 16, 2012 – While San Diego prepares for Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day, those looking to add a special, unique touch to their parties and get-togethers need not look further than Encinitas’ Elizabethan Desserts. The bakery, which specializes in classic American pastries, cakes and desserts, will feature flavors that have become crowd favorites, and for the first-time ever, will host a Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13, 2012.
Featured flavors for Cinco de Mayo include:
  • The Mustachio™: White chocolate pistachio cupcake with pistachio buttercream frosting complete with a chocolate mustache and topped with a sombrero made of sugar. Available in bite size or individual size.
  • Hot Mama Cupcakes: Chocolate cake with chocolate chili buttercream frosting dipped in dark bittersweet chocolate and garnished with a sugar jalapeño. The secret spicy blend brings just a little bit of heat, but not too much.
  • Margarita Pies: Our Key Lime Pie features fresh key limes, fresh lime juice, and a handmade graham crust rimmed with kosher salt. Available in bite size, individual size or whole.

Escape the hustle of a traditional restaurant brunch and treat the mom in your life to an experience she’ll talk about for years to come. Inspired by her customer’s stories of purchasing the bakery’s cupcakes and cookies for tea parties, Elizabethan Desserts owner Elizabeth Harris decided to transform the bakery into a tea room to give local moms a place to unwind and enjoy time with their families.
For just $15 per person, guests can enjoy Elizabethan Desserts signature Lidibits™ served on grandma’s china. Enjoy an assortment of mini tea cakes, scones and pie bites and whoopie pies, with pink lemonade, coffees and teas. For $25 per person, guests will relish the above offerings plus savory tea-size artisan sandwiches, featuring freshly baked Joanne’s Hearty Bread.
The Elizabethan Desserts’ Mother’s Day Tea events are Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 760-230-6780 for reservations or more information.

A new flavor this year is the Lucy Goosey Pie, a fresh raspberry cream pie topped with fresh raspberries and whipped cream, which pays homage to Harris’ grandmother who loved to bake.

Elizabeth Harris, owner, has been baking since she was a child and professionally since 1996. Her style is nostalgic, American comfort food with an elegant touch; and Elizabethan Desserts, which opened in 2006, has developed quite a following throughout San Diego County. “You won’t find shortening based frostings, synthetic dairy based whipped topping or artificial ingredients in our food,” says Harris. “I like using the finest ingredients like real butter, heavy cream, premium chocolate, fresh fruit and vegetables,” she adds.
Her childhood is also a source of inspiration for many of the menu items she single-handedly creates. “The smell of an oatmeal cookie with maple icing reminds me of coming home from school, or the taste of a s’more reminds me of Girl Scout camp,” she says. “Memory, smell and taste are inter-mingled within our brains.”
