SAN DIEGO, Calif. – August 14, 2019 – Cox Charities, the employee led foundation of Cox Communications, announces this year’s funding for its six annual partners, which represent at least one of the giving pillars of youth, education, conservation, and military veterans. This year, the organizations received an additional 20 percent of their annual gifts as an “Act of Kindness” in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cox Charities. The total amount granted to the annual partners in 2019 is $120,000.
Cox Charities’ annual partners – Make-A-Wish San Diego, Junior Achievement of San Diego County, San Diego Habitat for Humanity, I Love A Clean San Diego, Shelter to Soldier, and Ronald McDonald House San Diego – receive a mix of major support. Representatives from Cox Charities work with each nonprofit to determine its needs and provide monetary support, in-kind services, and employee volunteerism. “Each of these organizations makes a difference in our community and we want to thank them for the work they’re doing,” said Chanelle Hawken, who oversees Cox Charities in California among other responsibilities as vice president of government and public affairs for Cox Communications in California.
Cox Charities is funded by employee donations that are matched by the company. A volunteer employee advisory board reviews community funding requests and determines which programs to fund.
“Cox has always had a strong history of supporting our communities through corporate philanthropy, and Cox Charities is a way for our employees to engage and have ownership of investing in our neighborhoods,” says Sam Attisha, senior vice president and region manager for Cox Communications in California. “Having grown up in San Diego, I know what a great nonprofit community we have and the difference they are making. Our employees are passionate about giving back and making a difference, and Cox Charities enables them to do that.”
Since 1999, Cox employees have contributed nearly $6 million through Cox Charities into local communities served by Cox in California, including San Diego, Orange County, Palos Verdes, and Santa Barbara.
Cox Charities is currently accepting funding requests through its Nonprofit Grant program. Applications will be reviewed by the employee advisory board in September and recipients will be notified in October. The deadline to apply for a nonprofit grant is Aug. 31.
