San Diego – Dec. 20, 2016 – Chula’s Mission celebrates the month of love with its second annual “Sugar & Spice Soiree” fundraiser, an upscale happy hour that will provide local professionals with the opportunity to network, as well as raise funds for programs that help motherless girls. “Sugar & Spice Soiree” is Thursday, Feb. 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Horton Grand Hotel in Downtown San Diego.
“Sugar & Spice Soiree” is a great way for professionals to get together, have fun and support their local community. Guests will enjoy complimentary signature spicy or sweet cocktails, delicious sugary treats, appetizers, music, a photo booth, and will have an opportunity to mix and mingle while bidding on exclusive selection of silent auction items. Proceeds from the event benefit Chula’s Mission, a nonprofit that aims to mentor and nurture young motherless girls through San Diego County. The nonprofit is the first of its kind in the nation.
“The bond between a mother and daughter is special and important,’ said Mayra San Juan, co-founder, Chula’s Mission. “The ‘Sugar & Spice Soiree’ aims to have an fun-filled evening, to meet and mingle, strengthen relationships and form new, all while increasing support for young girls that are motherless.”
Event proceeds benefit the programs and outreach activities of the organization, which includes a unique and dynamic grief counseling program for young motherless girls. Their programs incorporate cooking classes, which are designed to aid in the healing process, by providing the comforts found in a tradition shared by many mothers and daughters. The goal is for each girl coming through Chula’s Mission to grow into a bright, well-adjusted and successful young woman. Through the generous hearts of volunteers and benefactors, motherless girls will have the opportunity to heal and thrive.
“Growing up without a mother is a challenging experience for anyone at any age, ” said Lyndsey Ruiz, co-founder, Chula’s Mission. “A strong support system is crucial, and we hope to make our community aware of the programs we offer, as well as the ways to become involved and make a difference in the lives of young girls during an important phase of their lives.”

About Chula’s Mission
Founded in 2010, Chula’s Mission is a San Diego-based 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to mentor and nurture young motherless girls. It is the first of its kind in the U.S. The organization’s programs are specifically aimed at addressing issues young girls may face after losing their mothers, reducing the risks and creating a healthier path to adulthood. Chula’s Mission was co-founded by Lyndsey Ruiz and Mayra San Juan, who both lost their mothers at a young age.
