SAN DIEGO – Feb. 10, 2015 – Serving Seniors will host an evening of fine wine and haute cuisine from across The Californias on Thursday, May 7 at the exquisite Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The event will aim to raise more than $250,000 and provide 100,000 meals through the agency’s nutrition program, which nourishes thousands of low-income and homeless seniors in San Diego County.
The theme for this year’s Experience of a Lifetime fundraiser is “Uncork Your Support” and features a reception with wine tastings from premier wineries across California and Baja California. Attendees will taste delightful charcuterie and locally sourced canapés, while listening to live music and bidding on silent and live auction items. There will also be an opportunity for attendees through the evening to honor a special senior in their life.
For the evening’s dining, Del Mar Country Club Executive Chef Tommy DiMella will create an exclusive menu with fine wine pairings, also inspired by California and Baja California. Chef DiMella will take attendees on a culinary adventure as he shares his creative insight on each course.
Serving Seniors serves 2,200 meals a day at 10 dining sites and to home bound clients in neighborhoods across San Diego County. With the average income of the seniors the organization serves being $850 per month, seniors need to often choose between medication and their next meal. In fact, 85 percent of Serving Seniors’ clients live in poverty on an average of $850 per month. The organization’s nutrition program addresses hunger and food insecurity and is one of the agency’s core programs that meet the highly specialized needs of thousands of low-income seniors in San Diego County. By supporting this event, Serving Seniors can continue to fill the plates of hundreds of seniors every day.
