The PRSA San Diego Chapter’s Edward L. Bernays Awards, is an annual celebration of the outstanding work in public relations within the San Diego and Imperial County communities. The Edward L. Bernays Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of public relations,” recognized Scatena Daniels Communications for our work in media relations, particularly in the nonprofit sector. Award #1: Category – Bronze Nonprofit Media Relations
Entry Title: San Diego Oasis Opens ‘Senior Center of the Future’
Scatena Daniels Communications led the earned media outreach efforts for the grand opening of San Diego Oasis at Rancho Bernardo, a two-story 19,000 sq. ft. center that will support local seniors through education, wellness, and community service. The ribbon-cutting ceremony attracted 1,200 attendees from throughout San Diego County to celebrate the nonprofit’s major milestone. Our efforts yielded a reach of more than 5,515,417 and a publicity value of over $149,542.
Our success in the Nonprofit Media Relations category is a testament to our team’s dedication and expertise in creating meaningful connections between the community and the organizations that serve it. San Diego Oasis plays a vital role in the lives of our local seniors, and we were honored to support their mission by making their grand opening an event to remember. Award #2: Category – Bronze Media Relations Press Conferences
Entry Title: West Health GED 2023 Press Conference
For West Health, Scatena Daniels coordinated a press conference and managed the media outreach to celebrate San Diego County as the first in the nation to receive geriatric emergency department (GED) accreditation for all eligible hospital EDs despite the challenges of the pandemic. In less than four weeks we drafted all the content, organized stakeholders, managed the press conference, and pitched for coverage. Older adults in San Diego now have access to senior-friendly ERs no matter where they live.
Receiving the Bronze Award in the Media Relations Press Conferences category highlights our expertise in orchestrating successful press events, even under tight deadlines. West Health’s achievement in gaining GED accreditation for all eligible hospital emergency departments in San Diego County is a significant milestone, especially during the pandemic.
Award #3: Category – Bronze Nonprofit Media Relations
Entry Title: San Diego Blood Bank Precision Blood Initiative Expansion
Scatena Daniels Communications led the earned media outreach for San Diego Blood Bank‘s announcement of the expansion of their Precision BloodTM initiative, a program researching the positive effects that precise blood has on chronically transfused patients. The campaign targeted potential funding donors, the community at large, and potential hospital and medical partners. Our efforts successfully garnered over $86,895 in earned media and more than 2.2M in circulation.
